Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A device of gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02cm) in width consisting of a maroon cross centered upon a gold Western Indian mountain symbol and above it a maroon mountain symbol, the two separated by a gold recessed Indian rising sun all above a recessed gold semicircular base inclosed by a semicircular maroon scroll bearing in gold letters the words "DAUNTLESS DENTAL SERVICE."

Symbolism
The cross is a traditional symbol of medical aid and the color maroon refers to the Dental Corps. The textured gold background represents the Mojave Desert and the Indian sun and mountain symbols represent the climate and terrain of the area of Fort Irwin.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 25 Sep 1981.
